09-09-09 Wow, what a day to start out!

Well hello everyone, we are coming to you from beautiful downtown Battle Mountain Nevada. No, we didn't drive all that far today but we are both a bit tired since we had a bad night of sleep last night. For some reason we were both having trouble sleeping.
Anyway, it was "stopping time" a bit earlier than we normally would have today. So, let me back up a bit to our travels to this point.
Back in San Francisco, we walked down to Avis to get the car just before 9:00am. We saw our friend Penny who waited on us last time we took our road trip in 2007. She asked for this blog addy so she can follow us so, HI PENNY !!!
The lady that waited on us was a great omen for our trip. Her name was Colleen and she was left handed! How's that !!!
We got into our gray Chevy Impala, license 6HVS740 with mileage of only 6409 so I suppose it's brand new.
We drove back to our apartment and began the loading process. Everything fit nicely in the trunk for two reasons; one, we didn't pack nearly as much as we did last time and two, the trunk was HUGE!
We left San Francisco and was crossing the Golden Gate at 9:45. Wayne found that our car had XM radio and guess what, he found ELVIS Radio from Graceland. It was the same station that interviewed me when we were there a year ago at Graceland with Kevin and Barbi and Mom. What could be better than driving a brand new car on a road trip with nonstop solid Elvis on the radio!
We got to Jim and Gail's around noon. Later that afternoon we picked up Pat, Gail's mom, and went to a mexican restaurant called Cabo's. Boy was it great food. We loved it. We went back to Jim and Gail's and had a nice visit while the "boys" talked trains.
After pretty much a sleepless night, we left around 8:00 this morning. It is now 09-09-09 !
We programmed the GPS and here we go. We now really feel like we are on our trip. Gail offered to make breakfast but neither of us were hungry so we thanked them and left.
Not going too far, we stopped in Auburn at old town and had breakfast at a place called Edelweiss. We had the greatest breakfast. The little girl who waited on us is pregnant with her first baby, a girl. She is due November 2nd and hasn't picked out a name yet. She was really sweet and a good waitress.
I-80 east heading for Reno, and not even planning on stopping! No gambling this time, our $$$ is too dear this time. We are on a budget and are going to try to keep it each day.
We did stop for gas in Reno and found a Radio Shack. We had seen some video that Gail had taken with her new Flip Video and of course we just had to have one. We found one at Radio Shack and it is wonderful! It's so easy, could not be any easier to use. You hold it up, push the button and there it is.
I will take some good video and post it here as soon as I can.
OK, now a confession. Yes we are old, yes we can be easily confused and forget things but who do you know that starts out on a cross country road trip for 6-7 weeks WITHOUT A MAP!!! Well it is us. We do have the GPS and just thought we could do without one but soon decided we wanted one so we stopped in Lovelock Nevada and bought a United States Map!
Lots and lots and lots of construction and road work done on the freeways since we left this morning. Just miles and miles of major work being done. It slows us down but oh well. We both remember a lot of road work on our last trip but don't think it was in Nevada like this is.
We want to watch/hear Obama's speech tonight at 5:00 to the joint session of congress and being as tired as we are, we decided to stop here in Battle Mountain. It is 3:30 and we haven't eaten since breakfast. Wayne is going to get some sandwiches somewhere and bring them back to the room for tonight. It will be an early night for us I'm sure.
We plan to turn off I-80 east tomorrow when we get to State 93 and go north to Idaho Falls, then on to Glacier park. Don't know where we will stop tomorrow, no plans yet.
Our love to everyone following us. We are happy as a couple runaway teenagers and having a great time, just a bit tired. Tomorrow is another exciting day. More later......
